According to Jim Meehan with the Spokesman Review, the recovery is going well.

Przemek Karnowski is still considering Gonzaga, NBA, Europe, pretty much everything, he told Jim Meehan with The Spokesman Review on Wednesday.

The big reveal didn't really reveal that much. Karnowski, who underwent season ending back surgery in Janurary, still faces a huge uphill climb to getting into play condition. Doctor's have told him he faces up to a nine-month recovery, which is well past the deadline for declaring for the NBA Draft.

"I'll probably decide during the summer," he said. "If the jumping goes well, the running goes well, if I don't feel pain anymore, I'm hoping to re-evaluate all of this then and go from there."

There are a couple of key takeaways from the article. Number one, and most importantly, Karnowski recognizes that if he decides to return to Gonzaga for another year of basketball, he also gets to utilize all of the resources the athletic program can provide.

The other big takeaway was a quick rumor to dispel before it even starts. Karnowski said he will not be taking part in Senior Night activities on Saturday because his parents will not be in town.

As Meehan notes, Karnowski has lost quite a bit of weight since the surgery, although he has gained some back recently. But he still is nowhere near basketball shape, let alone moving shape. Karnowski sits away from the bench during games just in case someone comes careening towards him.

NCAA student-athletes need to declare for the NBA draft by April 29. Barring a miracle in his recovery, that is an aggressive timeline for Karnowski to have any sort of indicator as to what teams may think he has to offer. For Karnowski to make a NBA squad next season, he would most likely have to find his way there via a summer league. Otherwise, he doesn't have a large opportunity to demonstrate his abilities for the league.

So, to read too much into a thought process that is only known to a few people, it really seems like the battle for Karnowski's senior year campaign comes against heading to Europe. Obviously, the family is there, and that is a huge pull. But for now, it is good to hear that the big man is doing well and staying in as high of spirits as he possibly can, given the circumstances. Hopefully, the recovery continues to go well and Karnowski is able to set out on whatever path he wants.

Terrible news for the Polish big man.

Senior Gonzaga center Przemek Karnowski will undergo season-ending back surgery, Jim Meehan of the Spokesman Review reported on Thursday.

Karnowski hasn't played since Nov. 27 against UConn after suffering what was reported as a bulging disc in his back. On the season, Karnowski was averaging 8.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, which might not seem like much. But his defense was stellar, and he was a big piece of why everyone was saying the Zags have one of the best frontcourts in the season.

As each missing game passed, it seemed less and less likely Karnowski would return this year. He often times was reported to be on crutches and in visible pain, even when sitting courtside. Karnowski will definitely be eligible for a medical redshirt now, but there is no guarantee he will be back.

Back injuries are no joke. Back injuries requiring surgeries are even less of a joke. All we can wish right now is that Karnowski gets better as soon as he can.

700ESPN snagged Mark Few after the end of the game yesterday.

Sounds like the Gonzaga Bulldogs are going to have to get used to life without Przemek Karnowski for the foreseeable future. 700ESPN was able to get some answers out of coach Mark Few, and like Few usually does, he didn't splice too many hairs about the issue.

Karnowski last saw time on the court against Connecticut, and has been sidelined with a back issue ever since. Coach Few called it more a bulging disc issue, and said that the only improvement is that the pain isn't in his legs anymore. But he also said that Karnowski has trouble even sitting at games and has no mobility.

In short, it is going to be a really long time until we see Karnowski again.

In his absence, Domantas Sabonis has really stepped up to the challenge, averaging 16.4 points and 12 rebounds since Karnowski sat down. This also means we will probably start to see a bit more of Ryan Edwards, who will have to do some growing up fast.

Theoretically, if Karnowski were to be out for the rest of the season, he could probably receive a medical redshirt, since he will have appeared in less than 30 percent of Gonzaga's games this season. Medical redshirts are applied for after the season is over, however.

Karnowski's injured back doesn't appear to be getting any better.

Przemek Karnowski sat for the third straight game with a back injury, and it doesn't look like he will be returning to the floor anytime soon, according to comments from Mark Few reported by Jim Meehan of the Spokesman Review.

This is the worst sort of news the Zags can be hearing right now. Gonzaga's main strength this season was its superior frontcourt, which becomes a whole lot less superior without Karnowski clogging it up down low. Karnowski's offensive numbers hadn't really climbed too much in his senior campaign. His defense, however, has been game changing and Karnowski has literally been a wall at times.

The frontcourt was supposed to allow our backcourt time to gel. Now, that isn't the case so much. Edwards can supply some solid minutes down low, but he is a far cry from the ability level of Karnowski right now. And realistically, with as brutal as the backcourt has been at times, this team needs all the help it can get.

If Karnowski is going to be out for a long time, the Gonzaga guards need to figure out what the hell is going on, and do it fast. Or else this season can get out of hand pretty quickly, and that will make for a tense Selection Sunday.
