Second Half Surge Powers Gonzaga Past New Mexico State

Gerard Coleman, Sam Dower shine as the Zags took down New Mexico State...

James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

Will have more on this game tomorrow but a few quick highlights from tonight's win over New Mexico State:

- Gerard Coleman has to be a starter for this team.  I get the argument that the starting lineup doesn't really matter but this guy is tailor-made to start at the small forward for this team.  He consistently plays with great energy, hits the glass like a crazy person, and can score at will.  More than anything, he is a guy that has no problem stepping up and making big shots for his team and that is something this program really could use more of.  Coleman was sensation tonight as he finished with 21 points.

- Sam Dower was once again very solid tonight and capped off a great performance with two huge dunks.  Prior to that, he was his typically quiet self but Sam was able to do it all tonight.  He finished with 22 points.

- Gary Bell left the game pretty early with what looked like a bruised hip after colliding with Kevin Pangos. Hopefully this is not a serious injury as Gonzaga has a road date coming up against West Virginia.

- A huge turning point in this one was an unfortunate one.  Sim Bhullar was called for a garbage flagrant foul early in the second half that, among other things, amounted to his third personal and helped Gonzaga build an 8 point lead that only grew from there.  Gerard Coleman and Sam Dower were big players in the big win but that sequence of events was crucial in this one.
