The Bulldogs will be looking to rebound from their road loss to WSU against a tough squad in the Toledo Rockets. This will be the first matchup between the two schools and our season home opener with the awesome (to some) turquoise N7 uniforms that the men wore on Friday. The game will be featured on ESPN+ at 5pm EST. This will be the first time the women have worn these jerseys so about time given that the men have worn them several times at this point. This will be a quick review of the Rockets as I'm a bit late getting this article after helping a friend move into a new home.
As covered in the series preview, Toledo had a strong 22-23 season after making the tournament as a #12 seed where they upset #5 Iowa State before bowing out to Tennessee. They currently stand 1-0 with their first win against James Madison University where they were down 21 points before an amazing 3rd quarter to erase that deficit before winning 60-49. Toledo was selected to finish first in the MAC and feature 1st team preseason selection & Ann Drysdale Award watchlist selection Quinesha Lockett along with 2nd team preseason selections Sophia Ward and Sammi Wikonowicz. Look for Lockett to be the primary scorer after finishing last season with 17.3ppg and Ward to be feeding the ball to her teammates as she's 8th all time in Toledo women's basketball with 468 assists.
Given Toledo's comeback in the first game and Gonzaga's subpar performance after the first quarter in Pullman, let's hope the Bulldogs play quality basketball throughout all four quarters and give the home fans a win at home. Hit the comments below to comment as the game goes along.
