Thursday Summer League Action: Suggs Hurts Hand

Petrusev and Kispert also in action

The NBA Summer League continued with eight games on Thursday. Four different former Zags had their teams in action. Here is a full rundown of another night in Las Vegas:

Jalen Suggs - 6 points (2-6 FG), 2 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist

The Magic were playing on a back-to-back and it showed. They struggled mightily all game, fell into a huge hole early, and never dug out of it, losing 108-71 to Boston. Suggs only played 11 minutes before sitting the rest of the game with what the Magic are calling a “sore hand.” There is no reason to rush Suggs back onto the court if he’s not healthy, even if it means he misses the rest of Summer ball. We’ll see what the Magic decide to do in their final game before playoffs on Sunday.

Corey Kispert: 9 points (4-14 FG), 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 steal

Kispert was 0-for-6 from deep until the final minute of regulation when he stepped into a game-tying three-pointer to send the game into overtime. Unfortunately, the Wizards gave up their own game-tying three in the final seconds of overtime and lost in sudden death double overtime to the Nets. Kispert struggled from the field, finishing 1-for-8 from deep. Former Pepperdine Wave Kessler Edwards had 14 points and nine rebounds for Brooklyn.

Filip Petrusev: 8 points (4-7 FG), 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, 1 steal, 0 turnovers

The former Zag started for the 76ers again and continues to do a little bit of everything while he’s on the court. In his first game, he had five points, four rebounds, and three blocks. On Thursday, played 24 minutes and put up numbers in every meaningful stat category in a 96-88, overtime win over Atlanta. Petrusev was labeled as a stash pick after the draft, meaning he would play in Europe next season, but that has not been finalized. A continued good showing in Summer League could certainly change those plans.

Zach Norvell: Did Not Play

Norvell has played just once in the Spurs five Summer League games across their trips to Salt Lake and Las Vegas, which does not bode well for his chances of making an impact for the Spurs organization next season.
