Aaron Cook Enters the Transfer Portal

The senior guard is taking advantage of one more year of eligibility.

Gonzaga Bulldogs senior graduate transfer Aaron Cook will be taking advantage of the NCAA’s extra year of eligibility, but he will be doing it elsewhere. Verbalcommits.com announced he has entered the transfer portal.

After starting his career at Southern Illinois, Cook arrived at Gonzaga as a graduate transfer last season. However, once Andrew Nembhard became immediately eligible, his spot in the rotation dropped. After averaging 32.8 minutes per game in his senior year at Southern Illinois, Cook logged just 13.4 minutes per game as a Zag.

In his time on the court, he was a tenacious defender, one of the better ones of the backcourt. With Nembhard largely expected to return, plus the recruitment of five-star recruit Hunter Sallis, it is understandable that Cook would like his swan song of college to be at a location that he figures to take on more of a prominent role.

It is still a hit for the Zags. With Cook now gone, Gonzaga really only has one true point guard on the roster in Nembhard. We should probably expect the team to look rather aggressively on the transfer market to fill that backup point guard role.
