After a successful freshman season of highlight reel dunks, passes, and game-winning three pointers, Gonzaga Bulldogs’ guard Jalen Suggs has announced he will enter the NBA Draft, forgoing his remaining college eligibility.
Suggs arrived at Gonzaga as the highest-rated incoming recruit in school history, and will become the school’s second one-and-done player, following in the footsteps of Zach Collins. The fact that both players were on Final Four winning teams is no surprise.
Suggs averaged 14.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.9 steals per game as one of the three main cogs of Gonzaga’s fantastic offensive attack. His ability to attack the rim and the speed with which he did so was something we haven’t seen in Spokane in quite some time, if at all. Suggs was a tenacious on-ball defender as well. Most of all, his court vision and ability to thread the needle on passes was phenomenal.
All of that adds up to a most likely top-five pick in the NBA Draft and a very real possibility to be the highest drafted Gonzaga pick ever. Outside of a consistent three-point shot, Suggs already has the athleticism, the build, and the drive for a long and successful NBA career. Although his time here at Gonzaga was too short, he helped usher through one of the most memorable seasons in school history. Hopefully, he’ll have the opportunity to do the same for a NBA fanbase throughout his career.
