Gonzaga and Baylor started the season ranked one and two in the Associated Press Top 25. It’s now Week 12 and nothing has changed. The Bulldogs and Bears remain atop the newest poll on Monday, with Baylor picking up five more first place votes after beating Texas on the road.
With Kansas dropping out of the polls for the first time since 2009, Gonzaga now owns the longest current streak of weeks ranked in the top 25 at 90 consecutive weeks. This is the first time since December of 1961 that Kansas, Duke, UNC, UCLA, and Kentucky are all unranked.
With Gonzaga facing three road games this week and Baylor on pause for the next two weeks, Mark Few’s squad has a chance to make another statement with all eye balls on them. That starts tonight in Provo. BYU is top 30 in the NET, the highest any opponent has been since Gonzaga faced Virginia. The Cougars received one vote today.
Outside of the top two, the poll was absolute chaos. 15 of the top 25 teams lost this week, including six of the other eight top 10 teams. The only ones who didn’t were Michigan, who is on Covid pause, and Ohio State, who picked up a huge road win at Iowa and vaulted to number four. Drake, who was ranked 25 last week, is out of the poll after losing their first game on Sunday. As it should be, Gonzaga and Baylor are the only two undefeated teams remaining.
