Gonzaga Drops to No. 21 After Loss to BYU

The Zags take a tumble.

After weeks of steadily climbing the ranks of the AP Top 25, the Gonzaga Bulldogs took a tumble following a loss to the BYU Cougars last week.

After opening the season with two losses in their first three games, the Zags rattled off 16-straight wins, usually by double-digits, before dropping one at Provo to the Cougars. The Zags now have three losses on the season by an average of five points.

Gonzaga rebounded with a more standard win over San Diego, 69-47. However, with only games remaining against Pepperdine and LMU before the WCC Tournament, the Zags will most likely enter the NCAA Tournament ranked in the low teens, at best.

It is a disappointment, but the AP number is just a number. What matters most is that the defense and offense is ready to make a run in the NCAA Tournament. The Zags demonstrated in their first game of the season against the then No. 1 South Carolina Gamecocks that they can hang with anyone.

Here is the full AP Poll for the week.
