It was a pretty standard week for former Zags across the board, but there were still some noteworthy performances, particularly in the NBA. The G-League also kicks off its season tonight in the Orlando Bubble, with three Gonzaga alums taking part.
Kelly Olynyk: Olynyk has been on fire, scoring 17, 15, and 20 in his last three games, all wins for Miami. He is shooting 54% from three in that span, and the 20 points are a season high.
Rui Hachimura: Rui posted his first double double of the season in a win over the Bulls, scoring 19 and pulling down 10 rebounds. He is averaging 13.1 points per game on the season.
Olynyk’s Heat and Hachimura’s Wizards faced off in the second of a two-game series last week, with Kelly outscoring getting the better of the matchup, outscoring Rui 17-12, while Miami won, 122-95.
Domantas Sabonis: Domas was featured on the first list of voting for NBA All-Stars. After th first return, he is 7th in the Eastern Conference among frontcourt players, and has the numbers to garner a potential second All-Star berth. He is averaging 21 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game for the Pacers, who are currently 5th in the East.
Brandon Clarke: BC has missed the last two games with calf soreness, but is listed as day-to-day and shouldn’t miss too much time. He is averaging 13.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for the Grizzlies this season.
Kyle Wiltjer: Wiltjer led Turk Telekom to victory over the weekend, with 26 points and 7 rebounds in an 89-86 win. Wiltjer leads the team in scoring with 18.3 ppg. Telekom is 12-8 on the season, 4th in the Turkish Super League.
Filip Petrusev: Petrusev also led his team to a win this week, scoring 19 and grabbing 8 rebounds for Mega SoccerBet. Petrusev still leads the Adriatic League in scoring and is top three in rebounds and blocks, while his team is 6th in the league standings at 12-6.
Kevin Pangos: Pangos had 10 points and 7 assists in one game, and 8 points and 3 assists in another for Zenit this week, who are 27-10 across two leagues this season. They are in first place in the Russian VTB League with a record on 14-1, and 6th in the EuroLeague at 13-9.
Austin Daye: Daye helped lead Venezia to a win with 15 points and 7 rebounds while shooting 6-9 from the floor, including 3-4 from three. Venezia is currently 5th in the Italian Serie A with a 12-6 record.
The NBA G-League’s abbreviated bubble season tips off tonight in Orlando, and three former Zags will be taking part. Zach Norvell Jr. will be returning to the Santa Cruz Warriors after splitting time with them and the South Bay Lakers last season, where he averaged 14.7 ppg. Ryan Woolridge will be making his professional debut when he suits up for the Oklahoma City Blue, and David Stockton is returning to the G-League with the Memphis Hustle after averaging 15.3 points for South Bay last year. Despite being on a two-way contract with Memphis, Killian Tillie stayed with the big club while recovering from a foot injury. He has yet to play this season.
