Gonzaga Bulldogs freshman Hunter Sallis is the second Zag to hear his name on the preseason award ring circuit. The young guard was named to the Jerry West Award Watch List today.
Sallis was a McDonald’s All-American and ranked the No. 6 player in the Class of 2021. He averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game as a senior at Millard North High School in Nebraska.
Sallis is bound to be an impact player this season, but how big of an impact remains to be seen. Even with the injury to Dominick Harris, the Zags backcourt has a lot of talent in Andrew Nembhard, Rasir Bolton, and Nolan Hickman. There are more than enough minutes to go around at the moment, but that situation could change slightly if Harris is able to return this season.
Either way, as is the case with any of these awards, Sallis faces some steep competition. Here is the the 20 student-athletes who made the watch list:
- Jaden Shackelford, Alabama
- Benedict Mathurin, Arizona
- Adam Flagler, Baylor
