The Gonzaga Bulldogs hit the road for their first true road game of the season, heading down to Portland to take on the Pilots.
Gonzaga is coming off an authoritative win over BYU on Thursday, 86-69. Portland was on the opposite end against San Francisco on Thursday, losing 88-64 to open WCC play.
It’ll be a rough year for the Pilots, hopefully not as rough as last year, when they finished 9-23, losing 19 of their final 20 games. In the midst of all that, the Pilots played the Zags surprisingly strong. Last season, Gonzaga only defeated Portland 85-72.
Will it be that close this season? Hopefully not. The Zags are the first team to open the season with 11 games of scoring 85 or more points since LMU in the early 90s. Gonzaga is one of the last nine unbeaten teams in the nation. The Zags own the No. 2 offense in the nation and the seventh-quickest tempo.
Gonzaga has won 12 straight against Portland, with the Pilots last win coming on Jan. 9, 2014.
