With a break in the WCC schedule, it seems like a good time for a weekly review of how former Zags are faring in the pros.
Domantas Sabonis: Sabonis has improved every year he’s been in the NBA, and this year is no exception. He followed up Eastern Conference player of the week honors by averaging 19 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists this past week, including three more double doubles. Domas now has a double double in all seven games for the 5-2 Pacers, which is good enough for tops in the NBA.
Rui Hachimura: Rui finally made his season debut on New Year’s Eve, scoring 17 points against the Chicago Bulls. In three games so far, he is averaging 14.3 points on 52% shooting.
Brandon Clarke: Clarke scored 15 and had 2 blocks against Charlotte on New Year’s Day. The 15 were his second most so far this season, where he is averaging 10.5 points and five rebounds per game.
Kelly Olynyk: Olynyk had his two best games of the young season this past week, with 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists in a win over the Bucks and 19 points and eight rebounds in a win over the Thunder. He shot a combined 8 of 14 on three pointers in those two games.
Kevin Pangos: Pangos is maintaining his solid form in Europe, with games of 12 points/six assists and 11 points/six assists this past week. He is shooting 41.5% from three this season and ranks in the top five in both the EuroLeague and Russian VTB league in assists.
Filip Petrusev: Petrusev is standing out in his first year as a pro for Mega Basket Belgrade in his native Serbia. He is leading the ABA Adriatic League in scoring with 22.5 points per game on 74% shooting, and is also pulling down over eight boards per game. He also has four double doubles in ten games. Also, I am loving those unis, may have to check out the team store.
Kyle Wiltjer: Wiltjer is averaging 18 points and six rebounds in the Turkish Super League, and is shooting 40% on three pointers. He had 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists in Turk Telekom’s most recent contest.
Austin Daye: Daye is suiting up for Venezia in the Italian Serie A this season, averaging 11.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
Eric McClellan: McClellan is averaging 14.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists for the Kapfenburg Bulls in the Austrian League.
Nigel Williams-Goss: After being waived by the Jazz in the preseason, Williams-Goss has inked a one-year deal with Russian team Lokomotiv Kuban. The deal was finalized just this morning, and he will likely have to undergo quarantine before joining the the team.
