Zags Lose Another First-place Vote in Latest AP Poll

Still No. 1 of course.

NCAA Basketball: Pacific at Gonzaga James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

The Gonzaga Bulldogs are still the top team in the nation and the Baylor Bears are still the second-best. For the entirety of the season, that has not changed.

For the second-consecutive week, the Zags have lost a first-place vote, however. This week, the Bears picked up three first-place votes. Now that Baylor is in the thick of the Big 12 schedule, their opponents are just higher profile, and that is the way it is.

Last week, Baylor defeated Kansas, 77-69, and Oklahoma State, 81-66. Gonzaga, on the other hand, had one game against Pacific, a 95-49 trouncing.

The Zags will stay on top because that is how it works, but it’ll be a few weeks until Gonzaga plays another mid-level WCC team. Gonzaga’s next five games are against the likes of San Diego, Pepperdine, LMU, and Santa Clara.

Baylor plays a WCC-KenPom-level ranked Kansas State team this week, followed by the Auburn Tigers, a former Gonzaga opponent.

Here is the full poll for the week:
