The West Coast Conference announced today that the beginning of all fall sports will be delayed to Sept. 24, 2020. Click here to read the entire press release.
The WCC is following suit with plenty of other leagues, so this news should not come as much of a surprise. In terms of winter sports, the WCC has not made any decision, so the Nov. 10 start date for basketball is still on the books.
However, it is something to keep track of going forward. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to worsen in the immediate future, there is a legitimate question about whether or not fall sports will even happen at all.
The decision does not affect in-person athletic-related activities either. Teams will be able to practice and workout at the school’s discretion.
The news affects cross country, soccer, and volleyball.
Gonzaga fans will continue to wait with bated breath for concrete news about the season, in which the Zags are heavily favored as a possible NCAA champion.
