Vintage NCAA Tournament: How to Watch Gonzaga and Florida (1999)

Gather around the fire for the game that launched a thousand catch phrases.

Richie Frahm #24...

In 1999, the Gonzaga Bulldogs crashed the party of the national college basketball elites with a tantalizing run through the NCAA Tournament.

That year began the first of a current 21-game streak of NCAA Tournament appearances. In those two decades, the Zags transformed from the eternally scrappy underdogs into a powerhouse competing with the best of the best, both on the court and in the recruits coming in.

For the history of the program, this was the game that started it all. Interestingly enough, Florida came into the Sweet 16 as a No. 6 seed that season, because the No. 3 North Carolina Tar Heels were upset in the first round by Weber State. Gonzaga knocked off the No. 2 seed Stanford Cardinal the previous game, the same Cardinal that had been to the Final Four in 1998.

But this is the ultimate game for Gonzaga fans. This is the game, trademarked by the lunacy that is Gus Johnson announcing, is the quintessential Gonzaga Bulldogs game. If you haven’t watched it before, join us tonight.
