AP Top 25: Gonzaga Falls to Number Three

And Kansas ascends to the crown.

NCAA Basketball: Gonzaga at Brigham Young Jeffrey Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

The Gonzaga Bulldogs fell one spot in the latest AP Top 25 poll to No. 3 in the nation, part of a shakeup that saw the entire landscape of the top 10 change.

The Kansas Jayhawks are the new No. 1 team, after defeating Baylor, 64-61, in Texas. The Baylor Bears fell from No. 1 to No. 2 in the loss. Dayton moved up one spot to No. 4, and San Diego State only fell one spot after their loss to UNLV.

The BYU Cougars jumped up six spots to No. 17 following their big win on Senior Night. Elsewhere around the polls for Gonzaga-related interest, Michigan fought their way back into the rankings, landing at No. 19. Oregon sat at No. 14, and Arizona is still on the outside looking in.

Barring an utter collapse by both Kansas and Baylor, it appears Gonzaga will probably finish out the season ranked in the top three. Kansas still has Texas Tech on the road, and Baylor still has Texas Tech at home and West Virginia on the road. However, both of those games will happen the week after the WCC regular season ends. The WCC Tournament will provide Gonzaga with the chance of another win over either Saint Mary’s or BYU, but not much else.

Here is the full AP Poll for Week 17.
