AP Top 25: Gonzaga Women Barely Hang On

The Zags fall to No. 25 after their second loss of the season.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs women’s basketball team fell to No. 25 in the latest AP Poll.

The Zags entered last week as the No. 18 team in the nation, but were taken down by the South Dakota State Jackrabbits on a three-pointer with three seconds left in overtime. That loss largely overshadowed their earlier win in the week, 54-50 over the University of South Dakota.

With the win, the Jackrabbits vaulted the Zags from unranked to No. 22. Elsewhere around the poll, the biggest news is the reorganization of the top five. After South Carolina lost to the North Carolina State, the Stanford Cardinal rose to No. 1. Louisville vaulted Connecticut for the second spot, North Carolina State rose to four, and the Gamecocks settled into fifth place. Four different teams received first-place votes this week.

The Zags have two games this week as they make their way back to Spokane. On Tuesday, Gonzaga will play at the University of Wyoming, and then follow that up against the University of Montana at home on Sunday, the only home game of the non-conference slate.
