Gonzaga to Play Virginia on Dec. 26

Time to grind.

NCAA Basketball: Virginia at Towson David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

The No. 1 Gonzaga Bulldogs and the No. 17 Virginia Cavaliers will face off on Dec. 26 in Fort Worth, Texas, and broadcast on CBS.

Gonzaga lost five games due to COVID, four easier games at home and the premier matchup against the Baylor Bears. There was hope of getting the game back on the books against Baylor, but those crumbled earlier this week when the Bears also put their program on pause due to COVID cases.

The game will pit one of the nation’s top offenses against one of the nation’s top defenses. It has been some time since the Gonzaga crowd has watched the Tony Bennett-led Washington State Cougars defeat the Zags in consecutive years (once by the eye-gouging score of 51-47), but for these Zags, all tough tests are good tests for the championship aspirations.

Gonzaga also recently rescheduled their game against Northern Arizona University for Dec. 28.
