AP Top 25 Poll: Gonzaga Solidifies No. 1 Spot

The Zags are the No. 1 team by a healthier margin.

NCAA Basketball: Kansas at Gonzaga Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Gonzaga Bulldogs increased their lead in the AP Poll, securing 57 overall first-place votes.

The Zags defeated the then No. 6 Kansas Jayhawks and the Auburn Tigers in impressive performances over the weekend. In a sign that people finally respect Gonzaga, the Jayhawks only dropped one spot after losing to Gonzaga.

There was plenty of movement (as expected) all over the AP top 25. Iowa, a future Gonzaga opponent, moved up to No. 3. The West Virginia Mountaineers, Gonzaga’s Wednesday foe, moved up to No. 11.

In WCC news, the Virginia Cavaliers dropped 11 spots after losing to San Francisco, and BYU is milling around someone’s poll, garnering exactly one vote.

Perhaps the biggest and most important news of the day, the Kentucky Wildcats dropped 10 spots to No. 20 after losing to Richmond. Richmond, meanwhile, entered the poll at No. 19. Absolutely beautiful.

Here is the full AP Poll for Week 2.
