2021 Recruiting: Gonzaga in Five-star Guard Hunter Sallis’ Final Eight

NCAA Basketball: San Francisco at Gonzaga James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

The Gonzaga Bulldogs are in 2021 five-star combo-guard Hunter Sallis’ final eight schools, the senior announced today.

The Zags have been on Sallis for what seems like an eternity now. Sallis ranked No. 6 overall by 247 Sports, and he was able to squeak in a visit earlier in January before the country shutdown.

By successfully recruiting Jalen Suggs, the Zags have demonstrated they can compete (sometimes) with some of the top-ranked recruits in the country. The list of schools to go up against, Kentucky, Kansas, and Oregon, for example, are tough as nails competition.

The Zags currently have secured the commitments of four-star forwards Kaden Perry and Ben Gregg. Looking beyond the Pacific Northwest area, the Zags are heavily involved with five-star unicorn center Chet Holmgren, with many outlets viewing Gonzaga as the favorite.

The Zags will have plenty of open scholarships left. As it stands now, Gonzaga has two scholarships remaining for the 2021-22 season, and that is still including Joel Ayayi, Drew Timme, and Jalen Suggs on the roster, players who very well could depart early.
