Corey Kispert Named Preseason All American

The senior wing is poised for a big year

Corey Kispert was named a first team preseason All-American by the Associated Press on Wednesday morning. He tied with Remy Martin for the fifth spot, making a six-player All-American team. He joins Illinois forward Ayo Dosunmu, top freshman Cade Cunningham, Baylor senior Jared Butler, and the preseason Player of the Year Luka Garza. Gonzaga will face Garza and Butler in non-conference play.

Kispert is the first Gonzaga preseason first team All-American since Kyle Wiltjer prior to the 2015-16 season. The senior wing is coming off a season where he averaged 13.9 points and 4.0 rebounds. He shot an eye-popping 44 percent from deep.

It’s another accolade in a long list of preseason recognition. Kispert is also on the Julius Irving watch list, named for the nation’s top small forward. He was a finalist for the award last season. He was named preseason All-WCC and is one of the favorites to win conference player of the year.

Fans get their first look at Kispert and the Zags on Thursday night. Kraziness in the Kennel coverage kicks off at 8 pm and will feature a 16-minute intrasquad scrimmage.
