Gonzaga Musters Just Enough in Win Over San Diego

This is why having a good defense helps out.

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-Second Round-Baylor vs Gonzaga Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Generally speaking, if you turn the ball over 20-plus times, you probably are going to lose the game. If you turn the ball over 20-plus times and shoot under 40 percent from the floor, you are most likely guaranteed to lose the game. Not if you have the Gonzaga Bulldogs’ defense.

Melody Kempton scored 13 and Jill Townsend added 10 points as the Zags won 57-46. Jessie Loera led the Zags with 14 points, but she also turned the ball over 10 times.

Speaking of turnovers, San Diego hassled the Zags into 24 turnovers. That, combined with Gonzaga struggling a bit from the floor, shooting just 40 percent from the floor, kept it rather close.

Luckily, the Zags have their defense to rely on. San Diego only shot 31.7 percent from the floor, and just 2-of-15 from long range. The Zags also forced 16 turnovers in the game.

Unfortunately, having to do this on the phone so we will have to keep it short. Gonzaga won again, and remains virtually unblemished on the season.
