The voters might have dropped Gonzaga down a spot to numero dos, but the content train must keep moving. Here is what’s on tap this week:
- It has been a challenging season for Admon Gilder who has had to be away from his daughter, transition to a new program, build bonds with new teammates on the fly, and develop into the vocal leader that Mark Few has asked him to be. But he’s finding his stride and his health at the right time, per Jackson Frank’s story over at The Athletic.
- Gonzaga’s spot in the tournament is essentially secured, barring a 10-game losing streak in the WCC, but BYU and Saint Mary’s are firmly on the bubble.
- BRACKETOLOGY: We’re quickly approaching Selection Sunday, so bracket prognostication season is starting to get in full swing. Joe Lunardi analyzed the resumes of a handful of teams, where he notes that while Gonzaga’s resume is a little lacking there’s not much precedent to drop it off the top line. Lunardi’s latest bracket has Gonzaga as the 1-seed in the West. SB Nation’s Chris Dobbertean has Gonzaga as the 1-seed in the East region, with the West going to San Diego State. Jerry Palm of CBS Sports has Gonzaga as the 1-seed in the West. Brian Bennett of The Athletic explains his thought process for placing Gonzaga on the 2-line, which is well-reasoned, if we’re being fair.
