College Basketball Rankings: Baylor Rises to No. 1, Gonzaga Falls to No. 2 in Latest AP Poll

The WCC caught up to the Zags.

NCAA Basketball: Santa Clara at Gonzaga James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

Despite winning both games last week, the Gonzaga Bulldogs fell to No. 2 in the latest AP Poll, with the Baylor Bears making the jump to the overall top position.

This seemed like more of an inevitability than anything else. Last week, Baylor actually received more first-place votes than Gonzaga, and sat only a grand total of seven points behind. Although the Zags looked good against Santa Clara and BYU, it would appear the curse of the WCC sent Gonzaga down one spot.

This time around, the vote totals are even more slim, with Baylor edging Gonzaga as the top team overall by a mere three points. Gonzaga only has one game this week, against Pacific, so Baylor will need to drop a game against either Oklahoma or Florida for the Zags to rise back up to the top spot.

Number one or number two, this is what we should expect from such a wild year of basketball.
