NBA Summer League Update (July 9th)

Clarke and Williams were both in action today

2 of the 5 Gonzaga players in the NBA Summer League were suited up today. 5 of the 10 WCC alum in Las Vegas were playing today as well.

Brandon Clarke (Memphis Grizzlies) - 9 Points, 8 Rebounds, 1 Block, 4-10 FG

When Vince Carter says you’re making the #15 look good, it’s fair to say you know a thing or two about dunking.

Brandon Clarke has logged 38 minutes in his two games at summer league and is a +48 while on the court. Although he didn’t play great in the 79-69 win over the Suns, Clarke is making sure he contributes in anyway possible when he steps on the court.

Johnathan Williams (Houston Rockets) - 10 Points, 9 Rebounds, 2 Steals, 1 Block

Even if the Rockets or any other team don’t offer him a contract, JW3 will still have a chance to play for the Lakers as a two-way player alongside Zach Norvell Jr.. I have a feeling the Lakers are going to have a special team in 2019-2020 so he should think about riding LeBron’s and AD’s coattail for next season.

Rui Hachimura (Washington Wizards) - DNP

Rui didn’t see action against the Los Angeles Clippers in the night slate (load management). Regardless, the Wizards have to be happy from what they’ve seen from the NBA’s first Japanese-born first-round draft pick so far.

Other WCC players in action:

Frankie Ferrari (USF; Utah Jazz) - 2 Points, 4 Rebounds, 4 Assists

Erik Mika (BYU; Sacramento Kings) - 9 Points, 7 Rebounds, 4-6 FG

Isaiah Pineiro (USD; Sacramento Kings) - 7 Points, 1 Steal, 3-4 FG

Out of all the WCC alum out there in summer league today, Pineiro impressed me the most. The combo forward has a chance to snag an invite to Sacramento’s training camp if he continues to play like he has at both the California Classic and in Las Vegas.
