Killian Tillie will also be attending the NBA Draft Combine on May 14-19, Jim Meehan of the Spokesman Review reported on Sunday.
Gonzaga's Killian Tillie received an invite to the NBA Draft Combine (May 14-19 in Chicago). He sprained his ankle Friday at workout for the Atlanta Hawks, but it didn't sound too serious. Previously reported that Norvell, Hachimura and Clarke received combine invites.— Jim Meehan (@SRJimm) May 6, 2019
As also stated in Meehan’s tweet, Tillie sprained his ankle last Friday in a private workout with the Atlanta Hawks, so he will have a little over a week to prepare himself for the workout.
Tillie will join Rui Hachimura, Brandon Clarke, and Zach Norvell at the combine, and this might be leaning towards Tillie remaining in the draft. Last season, Tillie was widely considered as a possible first round draft pick, but the injury he sustained before the Sweet 16 loss to Florida State took away his ability to practice for any team.
Considering Tillie spent much of the year injured, some in Gonzaga-land were quite surprised when he declared for the draft. If anything, Tillie showcases just how fragile and fraught this whole process is. If he has a chance to go early, a change to get drafted, and therefore a chance to make some guaranteed money, he should definitely do it.
True, he could come back next year and be a guaranteed first round pick. Or he could also come back next year, get injured, and end up graduating with as little NBA fanfare as possible.
Tillie’s ability to stretch the floor as a big man makes him possibly the most tantalizing of the four potential Gonzaga draft picks. He has shown he has the potential before, now he gets to put it on display for the NBA to see.
