Gonzaga Bulldogs 2019 recruit Anton Watson was invited to the USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Cup Team training camp, June 15-18, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Watson is one of 34 athletes to receive an invitation, which will eventually be whittled down to a 12-man roster. The U19 team departs for the FIBA World Cup in Greece on June 24.
Of note for Gonzaga fans is the invitation of 2020 Gonzaga recruit Jalen Suggs. Gonzaga has been hard on the chase for Suggs, the No. 10 ranked recruit by 247 Sports. Suggs officially visited Gonzaga back on Feb. 9, and the Zags have secured commitments from his friends Julian Strawther and Dominick Harris (the two players have visibly and actively recruited Suggs on social media).
Watson was invited to the U18 Training Camp last year, survived the first round of cuts, but ultimately did not make the 12-man roster.
With college basketball news on the slim side during the summer, a Watson appearance on the U19 team would give Gonzaga fans plenty to watch during late June and early July. The U19 FIBA World Cup takes place on June 29-July 7.
