Jeremy Jones may have not been the flashiest player or made the biggest impact during his tenure at Gonzaga but he was a vital part to the team’s success the past few years. His energy both on the bench and court brought the team closer together. He would do anything to make sure all is well with his teammates. Jones is the definition of what a Gonzaga Bulldog truly represents.
The craziest part about Jones’ athletic career was that he really wasn’t on Gonzaga’s radar at all. The quarterback from San Antonio started out as a football player at Rice University. He even earned a spot on Rice’s basketball team as a walk-on. Everything was going good in his life in Houston but then, he watched the Zags play against Duke in the Elite Eight in 2015 and it all changed. He knew what he had to do and that was come to Spokane to play some basketball.
When it came to hoops, the small forward shined more on the defensive end of the floor. If Mark Few needed to slow down an opposing guard who was quick on his feet or a lanky forward, Jones would be the guy to call for the job. His athleticism was something to watch and his basketball IQ has drastically improved since the first day he stepped onto campus.
In a three-year span and 96 games with Gonzaga, Jones averaged 2.0 PPG and 2.0 RPG in 8.7 MPG. He was apart of 4 Sweet Sixteen’s, 2 Elite Eight’s, 1 Final Four, and 1 National Championship appearance. More importantly, he earned a Business Entrepreneurship Degree and a Masters of Business Administration Degree from Gonzaga University. Thanks for all your hard work, Jeremy. It won’t go unnoticed.
