Gonzaga Bulldogs mens’ basketball coach Mark Few and womens’ basketball coach Lisa Fortier were each named to the Naismith Coach of the Year shortlist for their respective teams.
Mark Few last won the award in 2017 when he helped guide the Zags to the national championship game.
The Zags are one of three schools to have coaches from both the mens’ and womens’ program nominated, alongside Louisville and Marquette.
While much has been made of the success of the mens’ program this year, the Gonzaga womens’ basketball team is having one of the best years in school history. The women are first in the conference, with a 14-2 record, and are ranked No. 16 by AP voters and No. 14 by the coaches. In the bracket reveal, the Bulldogs were given a No. 4 seed.
Congratulations to both Coach Few and Coach Fortier for the recognition, and hopefully, we get to bring some hardware to the Spokane fireplace mantle.
