College Basketball Rankings: Gonzaga Moves Up to No. 6

On the up and up.

NCAA Basketball: Gonzaga at Washington Lindsey Wasson-USA TODAY Sports

The Gonzaga Bulldogs are the new No. 6 team in the nation according to the latest AP Poll, moving up from last week’s No. 9 ranking.

Ohio State made a leap into the top three after absolutely dismantling North Carolina last week. Louisville and Kansas remained at No. 1 and 2, respectively, and Maryland and Michigan round out the top 5.

The Bulldogs defeated the then No. 22 Washington Huskies on Sunday, 83-76, to send UW tumbling out of the top 25. Around the rest of the rankings, the voters did not punish Arizona too harshly for losing to Baylor, dropping the Wildcats from No. 12 to No. 15.

Saint Mary’s is clinging on for dear life, receiving a total of eight votes after their loss to the Dayton Fliers on Sunday.

North Carolina dropped all the way from No. 7 to No. 17 after the loss to Ohio State. The Tar Heels should remain a top 25 team by the time they arrive in Spokane. North Carolina only has a home game against Wofford before the cross country trip, although it is important to point out the last time Wofford and UNC played in Chapel Hill, Wofford won.
