Gonzaga Women Remain at No. 17

Despite a top 25 win last week, no movement for the Zags.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs remain firmly rooted in the No. 17 spot in the latest AP Top 25. This week, the Zags are closer and closer to finally moving up, sitting just two points behind No. 16 DePaul.

One would’ve thought a win over a top 20 school at home would be the necessary force to get out of whatever quicksand No. 17 holds, but alas, the voters for the AP Poll had other things to say. Most likely, they were a bit preoccupied with having to figure out how to rearrange the top of the bracket, considering Stanford surprisingly lost to Texas.

Connecticut took over the No. 1 ranking, garnering 19 first place votes. Kelly Graves and the Oregon Ducks aren’t too far behind, rising to No. 2, and Oregon State rose up to No. 3.

The Zags finish the non-conference slate in a great fashion, and head into conference play as the team to beat in the WCC. After a week-plus off to celebrate the holidays, the Zags will take on Dec. 29. The schedule gets hard immediately, with a road game at BYU in early January and Saint Mary’s at home on Jan. 9.

Here is the full AP Poll.
