The No. 2 Gonzaga Bulldogs host the North Carolina Tar Heels in Spokane tonight, a sentence I would’ve laughed at if anyone told me it would be happening five years ago.
This is the second leg of a home-and-home. Last season, the Tar Heels beat Gonzaga in Chapel Hill, 103-90. Of the current Gonzaga squad, Corey Kispert scored six points before fouling out, Filip Petrusev scored seven points in 11 minutes, and Joel Ayayi saw the court for one minute.
North Carolina leads the all-time series 3-1. The last time the Zags beat UNC was back in 2006, when a Josh Heytvelt lead Gonzaga team upset a Tyler Hansbrough monster squad in Madison Square Garden before Thanksgiving. Since then, it has been Gonzaga losses in the NCAA Tournament, coming in 2009 and of course in the 2017 title game.
So revenge is a bit on the brains here, even if UNC is absolutely limping into this game. The Tar Heels are coming off a 68-64 loss at home to Wofford, their third straight.
The Zags meanwhile are coming off a win on the road over Arizona, their third win over the Pac 12 this year.
