The Gonzaga Bulldogs received a verbal commit from 6’6 Lithuanian winger Martynas Arlauskas, 247 Sports reported on Thursday.
Arlauskas is the third recruit of the 2019 class for Gonzaga, joining up with Washington products Anton Watson and Brock Ravet. Arlauskas is ranked as the No. 42 player in the class of 2019 by 247 Sports.
This is a huge get for the Zags and cements assistant coach Tommy Lloyd’s status as one of the best, if not the best, international recruiters in college hoops. There are a list of themes involved in Gonzaga’s ascendance to annual Sweet 16 threat, but one of them has been a steady supply of international recruits.
Arlauskas will join a team featuring the Serbian-born Filip Petrusev and the French-born Joel Ayayi. Possibly (although unlikely), Killian Tillie (France) and Rui Hachimura (Japan) might be on the roster. While the Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, and the other blue bloods battle it out for the five-star one and done recruits stateside, Gonzaga has focused their attention abroad.
Arlauskas currently plays for BC Zalgiris, who you might recognize as the old team of Gonzaga graduate Kevin Pangos.
