2019 recruit Anton Watson makes U-18 Nationals first cut

Watson is one of 18 players to survive.

2019 Gonzaga Bulldogs recruit and Gonzaga Prep star Anton Watson is one of 18 remaining players trying to make the USA Men’s U-18 National Team.

Watson is one of 33 players who were first called up, and the only surviving recruit from the state of Washington, beating out Jaden McDaniel of Federal Way and Kevin Porter Jr. of Rainier Beach.

Watson is piling on the accolades prior to his senior year of high school. Watson helped lead Gonzaga Prep to a 4A state championship and an undefeated season, averaging almost 22 points and nine rebounds per game.

The U-18 squad will play in the 2018 FIBA Americas U18 Championship in St. Catharines, Canada. The top four finishing teams will qualify for the 2019 FIBA U-19 World Cup.

Watson is working towards the final twelve game roster, which should be announced in the next few days. The United States is hunting for their fifth-straight gold medal, and have their first game against the Domincan Republic, on June 10, at 3:00 pm PT.
