For the second time, five-star point guard Brandon Williams decided against Gonzaga, committing to Arizona on Saturday.

It has been a long and strange trip for the Williams’ recruitment. The Bulldogs heavily recruited Williams, but he was one in a long line of wiffs for 2018. Williams originally was sold by Lorenzo Romar on Arizona. Unfortunately for Arizona, a scathing ESPN article about Sean Miller’s alleged recruiting violations opened up the Williams lottery back in March.
Donny Daniels made an in-home visit and Williams finally came to Spokane last weekend, but in the end, it wasn’t enough to win him over for his services.
It is a disappointment, for sure, but the Zags are going to be just fine next season. Gonzaga was already looking to be a preseason top 10 team with both Rui Hachimura and Killian Tillie ignoring the NBA for another year. Having another ball handler alongside Josh Perkins would’ve been a huge boost for the Zags, but even without Williams, many people were talking about the Zags as a Final Four threat. Nothing has changed on that front, and next year’s squad will be just as exciting.
