College basketball rankings: Gonzaga closes out final AP poll ranked No. 8

Gonzaga finishes out the season as a top 10 team.

NCAA Basketball: West Coast Conference Tournament-Gonzaga vs BYU Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Gonzaga Bulldogs are the No. 8 team in the nation, as ranked by the AP voters in the final poll of the season.

Considering the Zags opened up the preseason poll at No. 18, and a whole lot of us thought, “Hey, that seems about right,” you have to consider the regular season a success. Despite losing a core of players from last season that would rightfully decimate most teams, the Zags didn’t slow down one iota.

There isn’t much else to say about this AP poll. Since it is released after Selection Sunday, it is even more devoid of actual meaning than your average AP poll. Still, the Zags can say they finished the season as a top 10 team, and that is fun.

Same goes for Saint Mary’s, who despite missing out on the NCAA Tournament can say, hey we finished as a top 25 team. Good for you Gaels!

Here is the final AP poll:
