College basketball rankings: Zags hold strong at No. 7 in AP poll

It was a boring week of polling.

The entire top 10 remained unchanged over the holidays and the Gonzaga Bulldogs are still the No. 7 team in the nation according to the latest AP poll.

As the season progresses and the top teams churn after losses, there is hope for the Zags to rise as a top 5 team again. However, regaining the No. 1 position will require a slip-up by the Nevada Wolfpack. Nevada is currently projected to also go undefeated in conference play.

The polls are meaningless to a large degree, of course, but you would be hard pressed to find a Gonzaga fan that doesn’t get a bit excited about seeing that “No. 1” next to the team on every broadcast. For the rest of the year, the Zags will most likely be on the outside looking up.

What is cool, however, is this year’s squad has a good chance to be the first Gonzaga squad to spend the entire year ranked in the top 10. The last squad to pull of that featured peak Adam Morrison in the 2015-16 season.
