Two weeks of decline.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs fell to No. 8 in the latest AP poll after their latest defeat to the North Carolina Tar Heels. Two weeks ago, the Zags were the No. 1 team in the nation. In two weeks, they’ve also lost two games.

Five teams total are still receiving first-place votes, although the Kansas Jayhawks got a lion’s share of them. The rest of the top 10 stayed relatively stable, except for Gonzaga’s fall and North Carolina’s rise. Interestingly enough, the Tar Heels are the new No. 9 team, a sort of funny place to exist considering the win over Gonzaga.

The polls, as we all know, are borderline meaningless. For now, the Zags are a top 10 team. On Saturday afternoon, they sure did not look like a top 10 team. Until a possible loss in the WCC happens, the Zags should ride the pin outside the top 5 for much of the season, with a chance of slinking in depending on how it fares during conference play.
