College basketball rankings: Zags hold strong at No. 3

And fellow WCC team LMU is getting votes.

NCAA Basketball: Texas A&M at Gonzaga James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

The Gonzaga Bulldogs are the No. 3 team in the nation according to AP voters. The top 10 largely stayed the same from last week, except for Michigan crashing the party at No. 9, up nine spots from last week.

The Maui Invitational will be the realm for the Zags to either move up or down in the rankings. If the Zags make it to the championship round on Wednesday, presumably, they will either play a No. 1 ranked Duke Blue Devils squad, or a No. 9 Auburn Tigers team.

Across the board, future opponents North Carolina and Tennessee are still in the top 10, at No. 7 and No. 5, respectively.

Perhaps the most lovely surprise is the other WCC team receiving votes, and no, I am not talking about Saint Mary’s or BYU. The Loyola Marymount Lions have opened the season 5-0, padded by upsets of UNLV and Georgetown. For their troubles, LMU received two points.

Here is the full AP top 25.
