Michigan State vs Gonzaga “Secret Scrimmage” Scheduled

Spartans Will Take on the Bulldogs Before the Season Starts

Gonzaga fans heard this rumor come out a couple of weeks ago and now it’s finally scheduled. Gonzaga will have to to travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota this month on the 27th to take on Michigan State. The Spartans have been listed in many different preseason rankings, mostly around the early-to-mid teens. NBCSports had Michigan State ranked 13th in their preseason poll.

Although the Spartans lost Miles Bridges to the 2018 draft (12th pick by the Los Angeles Clippers but then traded to the Charlotte Hornets), Cassius Winston returns alongside Josh Langford and Nick Ward. The Spartans don’t really have any star-power like they did last season but should still be competitors for the Big Ten championship and should consistently be ranked in the AP Poll.

The last time Michigan State played Gonzaga was in 2011 when Draymond Green dropped 34 points in the McCarthey Athletic Center to upset the #23 Gonzaga Bulldogs. You may also remember another historic game in Gonzaga history back in 2005 when Adam Morrison dropped a Maui Invitational record 43 points to beat the #12 Spartans in a semifinal matchup (Gonzaga was ranked #8 in the country at the time but ended up losing in the championship game against the #3 Connecticut Huskies, 65-63).

The true matchup in this scrimmage will be the coaching between Tom Izzo and Mark Few, two future Naismith Hall of Famers...
