According to an article by Jim Meehan, Spokesman-Review Gonzaga basketball reporter, Jacob Larsen has quit the Gonzaga Men’s basketball team. Meehan states Larsen will continue as a student at Gonzaga and remain on scholarship.
Larsen averaged over 15 minutes per game in the first half of last season, but played only limited minutes in the second half and the post season tournaments. Larsen was expected to compete with incoming freshman Filip Petrusev for the teams fourth big this season behind Rui Hachimura, Killian Tillie and Brandon Clarke. Petrusev, who has reportedly looked good in preseason drills, should now see significant playing time this season.
Entering the season, Gonzaga possibly had its deepest squad ever. With Larsen quitting the squad, it will now be up to Jeremy Jones to provide any additional depth in the frontcourt. No reason was given for Larsen’s decision and there was no indication of any injury.
