College basketball rankings: Rumble at the top, Zags rise up a spot

Say hello to the new co-No. 19 team in the nation!

NCAA Basketball: Santa Clara at Gonzaga James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

There was quite the dust up in the top 10, with multiple teams losing, some plummeting, and a new No. 1 team crowned in the latest AP top 25 poll.

Villanova, after losing to Butler, dropped down to the No. 3 spot, although one voter insisted that wasn’t enough to drop them from the overall top spot. Nova still received one first place vote. In their place, Michigan State resumed their steady rise to the top, with Duke following suit as the No. 2 team.

Texas A&M had a rather tough week, dropping out of the top 10, to a mere No. 11.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs rose one spot to No. 19, but it might as well read No. 19/20. The Zags received the same number of votes as Cincinnati. The Zags, for their part, are probably going to hang around this area until wins over Saint Mary’s or BYU materialize. Yay WCC!

Here is the full rankings for the week:
