Five-star point guard Brandon Williams has chosen the Arizona Wildcats over Gonzaga, the young guard announced on Tuesday.

Gonzaga has long been in the running for Williams, but it was a overtly competitve climb to attempt to secure his services. Alongside Arizona, the Zags had to battle UCLA and USC proximity to home, as well as the gigantic program that is Kansas. In the end, the dual recruiting headed monster of Sean Miller and Lorenzo Romar was too much to push past.
If anything, the addition of Romar to the Arizona coaching staff is going to make life a living hell for Mark Few and his recruiting abilities on the west coast. Miller has proven to be a fantastic recruiter on his own for Arizona, and say what you will about Romar, but he was able to bring players to the University of Washington like no other.
Straight from Williams’ mouth as well: “The biggest reason was Sean Miller; he was a big part of that recruitment. I love the coaching staff, especially with the addition of (Lorenzo) Romar. That only helped me because he’s had a lot of great guards including Markelle (Fultz) and Isaiah Thomas.”
Williams is a jewel of the 2018 class. He is ranked as the No. 20 player in the entire class and the No. 3 point guard by 247Sports.
This isn’t much of a surprise, however. Williams took his visit to Arizona quite recently, and then announced his intention to announce even more recently. Connecting the dots beforehand, and the Zags didn’t have a chance.
