2019 shooting forward Anton Watson has verbally committed to the Gonzaga Bulldogs, Jim Meehan of the Spokesman Review reported on Wednesday. Watson is a 6’7 forward out of Gonzaga Prep in Spokane, Washington.
This is as exciting of news as you are going to get for the first member of the 2019 recruiting class. Watson was the Greater Spokane League MVP this past season, and he led G-Prep to a third-place finish in the Washington State 4A Tournament.
Watson still has two full years of high school ball left to play, and there is a good chance that you will start to hear his name quite a bit more often as he finishes out his high school career.
What is truly impressive, and necessary, is that Watson is one of the few elite-level players coming out of Spokane in quite some time. It is imperative for the Zags, in the same way it is for most schools, to make sure they lock down their hometown heroes often, and early.
Watson still has plenty of growing to do in his body, and he has plenty of time to do it as well. He stands at 6’7 already, and if he grows a couple of inches over the years, you can expect to see him slide over the power forward position. If he stays at the same height, he will be a dangerous winger that will compliment with Corey Kispert rather nicely.
