The Gonzaga Bulldogs hosted French point guard Joel Ayayi last weekend, according to Scout.com.
Ayayi is a 6’4 point guard from Paris, and goes to INSEP. He has already received offers from Baylor and Georgia Tech, and will be visiting the latter school this coming weekend.
Ayayi averaged 11.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists at the 2016 U18 European Championships, and looks like he could be another high quality European player to land at Gonzaga.
The Zags might have a bit of an advantage, thanks to Killian Tillie (INSEP alum) being on the roster. There is also another ace up the sleeve of the Gonzaga coaching staff in the form of Gonzaga great Ronny Turiaf. Turiaf helped lead the European charge at GU, and he is a former alum of INSEP as well.
Most of all, the fact that the Zags are staying active on the recruiting cycle lends some credence to the notion someone is leaving early this season. The Zags have no scholarships left to give, and that means that either Zach Collins and/or Nigel Williams-Goss are bouncing early, or someone plans on transferring.
Either way, Ayayi sounds like a quite the raw, but also promising, talent. Will he be the next in line of the European imports? We shall see.
