Where will Gonzaga, winner of “the truckstop conference,” be playing next weekend? We’re about to find out.

Following its win on Tuesday night in the WCC Championship, the Gonzaga Bulldogs have had a few days to relax/practice/recover and watch as the rest of the nation battled for the remaining spots in the NCAA Tournament field.

For fans of the Zags, most of the interest in other conference tournaments lay in whether any team could push Gonzaga out of the 1-seed that was earned through a season’s worth of dominance (February 25 aberration aside). If you ask Bill Walton about Gonzaga’s credentials, which Joe Lunardi and Dave Pasch did during the Pac-12 (#ConferenceOfChampions) championship game on Saturday night, he’ll tell you that Gonzaga is the champion of a “truckstop conference” (the citizens of Malibu would like to have a word with you, Bill) and that its December win over Pac-12 Champs Arizona was “meaningless.”

With Duke’s admittedly impressive run to take the ACC Tournament by winning four games in four days, the media push to bump Gonzaga down to the 2-line began in earnest on Saturday night. If body of work means anything to the committee, Gonzaga should be headed to Salt Lake City with a #1 next to its name. But, if the committee prioritizes achievements that happened in the eastern time zone from March 8-12, then this could be an interesting selection show.

We’ll find out soon enough where Gonzaga ends up. Feel free to celebrate, vent, or both in the comments below.
