College Basketball Rankings: Zags begin to solidify hold on No. 1 spot

The Zags got even more first place votes as they hold down the top spot for the second-straight week.

NCAA Basketball: Santa Clara at Gonzaga James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

The Gonzaga Bulldogs avoided the curse that has plagued many newly minted No. 1 teams this season and held down the top spot in the AP rankings for the second-straight week.

It was a wild week on the top for everyone else not named Gonzaga as well. Plenty of top teams lost, which allowed the Bulldogs to increase their first-place vote total from 46 to 59. Villanova is the only other team getting first-place votes, garnering six of them.

It’ll be a treat for the upcoming schedule. The Gonzaga Bulldogs will roll into Moraga, California, as the No. 1 team with ESPN’s College Gameday in tow. Loyola Marymount fans will also great a treat as the No. 1 Zags roll into Los Angeles.
