Emma Wolfram injury: senior center out for the season

The red-shirt senior was supposed to play a big role for the women this season.

With the graduation of Kiara Kudron, there was a hole in the post that needed to be filled alongside Jill Barta. That honor was supposed to go to Emma Wolfram, whose 6'5 frame was the largest of the team.

Wolfram was a selection on the All-WCC freshman team, and despite playing in limited minutes last year, led the team with 34 blocks. Her size and defense was a perfect compliment to Barta's scoring ability. Unfortunately now, her season will be over with a knee injury that originally held her out in the team scrimmage a week ago.

As for the impact of the roster, Zykera Rice is now expected to start at the forward position. Her and Barta starting would be a simila situation to Killian Tillie and Johnathan Williams playing together. None are true centers but will compliment each other on the court.

This also expands the roles of the top-100 freshmen twins, Jenn and LeeAnn. This brings the number of forwards on the roster to four, which is fine until another injury possibly occurs. And unlike the men with Rui Hachimura, the women don't have a three who can play the four spot ala Elle Tinkle. In her career with Gonzaga, Wolfram averaged 5.4 ppg and 4.1 rpg and, while never the stat stuffer like some her teammates, she was ways a reliable and consistent defender and rebounder off the bench. This injury is certainly a blow before the season begins.
