Gonzaga senior Johnathan Williams III is one of 50 players named to the preseason Wooden Award list. Williams has also been named to the preseason Naismith Award list, and these two are the most prestigious player of the year awards in college basketball.
Williams is expected to have a big year now that Przemek Karnowski and Zach Collins departed Gonzaga. He scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds in Gonzaga’s season opening win over the Texas Southern Tigers.
Williams is sitting two points shy of the 1,000 point feat for his college career. He is also two offensive rebounds short of 250 total for his career.
Players on the preseason list are considered strong candidates for the final year. The last round of voting is the National Ballot, consisting of 15 players, which nearly 1,000 people will vote on. The winner will be announced on Friday, April 6, 2018. For a full list of nominees, click here.
