A loss to Butler was all it took for Villanova to drop and the Baylor Bears are the new No. 1 team in all of college basketball.
Kansas is the new No. 2 team, with Nova dropping down to No. 3. UCLA is No. 4 and the Zags held pat at No. 5, one of the two remaining undefeated teams in the country.
Other than that excessive movement up top, there wasn’t a hole lot else going on. West Virginia dropped a few spots after losing to Texas Tech, and the voters highly rewarded Florida State with a win over Virginia Tech.
The poor Saint Mary’s Gaels are the most interesting case of the week. The team who was just named but shall not be named again dropped two spots despite a good win on the road against San Francisco and a statement game against BYU. Welcome to the world of the West Coast Conference, where generally you can do nothing right.
For the Zags, the most important thing this week is they remained a top five team, and two voters got excited enough to label them as the No. 2 team in the nation. One can dream.
